Honjo International Scholarship Foundation 2025 (Fully Funded)

The Honjo International Scholarship Foundation is offering fully funded scholarships for international students for the session 2025-2026. This scholarship is offered for Master’s and Ph.D. programs. The Honjo Scholarship provides accommodation, monthly stipend, and travel expenses for participation in an international conference.

The Honjo International Scholarship Foundation was established to provide scholarships to talented students who find it difficult to study under conditions related to financial constraints in developing countries and Japanese students studying abroad, to help them study the latest technology and promote their good intentions. Scholarship Coverages

The Honjo International Scholarship Foundation offers recipients the following benefits:

  • ¥200,000/ month for 1 or 2 years.
  • ¥180,000/ month for three years.
  • ¥150,000/ month for 4 (or) 5 years.
  • Travel costs for participation in an international conference, etc.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Honjo International Scholarship, applicants must fulfill the following criteria:

  • English and Japanese are the required languages.
  • Applicants from any part of the world are eligible to apply.
  • A student enrolled in a professional research school is not eligible to apply. However, a student who can submit a research plan may apply.
  • A student applying for doctoral studies must begin higher (Ph.D.) studies at the age of 35 years old. A student applying for master’s studies must start master’s studies at the age of 30 (without exception).
  • Students must have a strong will to serve their home country after graduation. This does not mean that the job is guaranteed or that he will return to his home country immediately after graduation.
  • The student must have a deep understanding of international friendship and goodwill participate in events organized by the foundation and participate in the network as an alumni member.
  • The student must be able to converse in everyday Japanese. Interviews will be conducted in Japanese. (not an exception)

How to Apply for the Scholarship?

Follow these important steps to apply for the scholarship for foreign students:

  • Enter into the “Online Application System”, fill out the application form, and upload the below-required documents.
  • Academic transcript of the university undergraduate course you have completed and any other courses you are currently taking or have previously completed. When you transfer to a university, you need a transcript from the previous school. All applicants must submit at least an academic transcript. Photocopies are accepted.
  • Scholarship application, CV, and personal data form (1 set of 3 pages); don’t forget to attach your photo to the application form. Download the above forms from the website. Fill them in Japanese by machine or by hand.
  • Research plan in Japanese or English, focusing on the following four points; (i) an explanation of your research; (ii) the proposed timeline from now to completion; iii) plans and goals; iv) your previous studies (if any). 2-4 pages is better. Available either printed or handwritten.
  • 1 letter of recommendation from the academic supervisor. (This confidential letter must mention the applicant’s academic achievements, character/personality, and future potential.) There is no limit to the number of pages or styles. If your former academic advisor knows you well, you can ask them for your recommendation letter.
  • Certificate or letter of admission. If the entrance exam has not yet taken place or the successful candidates of the entrance exam have not been announced before applying for the scholarship, write the scheduled date of the exam or result announcement at the end of the application form. If you are already enrolled in college, try for current enrollment. (Photocopies are acceptable.)
  • One letter of recommendation from an academic advisor. (This confidential letter must mention the applicant’s academic achievements, character/personality, and future potential.) There is no limit to the number of pages or styles. If your former academic advisor knows you well, you can ask them for your recommendation letter.
  • If you have documents in another language, please include a Japanese or English translation.
  • After submitting the documents, a registration number will be issued and a PDF file of your registration form will be generated. Save the PDF file as you will need it when the result is published on our website.
